Forget RoseGold:Mauve Is THE Color This Season

Forget RoseGold:Mauve Is THE Color This Season

Rose gold was the color last year. From the rose gold version of the iPhone to jewellery, furniture and even hair colors. Rose gold was the bomb. However it's not an extremely different color as rose gold, this new shade of pink this season is hot and happening. Say hellow to everythingmauve now!

The color mauve comes in different shades, but it's basically a mix of purple, pink and beige shades. Again, everything from our clothes to our hair, nails, accessories and makeup is allowed to be mauve colored. It's just so pretty, not as girly as rose gold and it's a perfect color to wear with basic colors like black and white. And of course: demim! Or what about silver and golden accents? Yes, you probably understand why this is a color to go wild for! Take a look below to get inspired on how to rock the mauve trend this spring and summer.

Women: Keep the Faith.

Every person has a moment in their lives when they face seeming impossibilities. This is when God does His best work as you yield yourself to Him. Like Mary, to take the posture that you are open to God and all His possibilities sets you up for the miraculous to occur. And yet how compassionate and sensitive God is. He knows it is fearsome to believe for the impossible alone. He often provides “an Elizabeth” to walk with you. A spiritual midwife, if you will, who confirms the promises of God and will help you birth your promise.

Though women are intuitive by nature, it is still challenging to exercise faith in the face of a situation others might question. You may find yourself back in the garden with the serpent whispering, “Did God really mean what He said?” Even when you’re clear about what He said, there is a tendency to question, to second-guess. Faith simply says yes and follows God’s directions no matter if it goes against the grain of your intellect. In the fullness of time God’s promises will manifest.

What miracle are you believing God for today?

God Knows what's Best

As members of the kingdom of God, everything we do affects everyone everywhere all the time. We are part of a uniquely connected fellowship that has a profound effect on the world. Our lives yielded to God will create lasting legacies that further His far-reaching plan for humanity. Therefore, our choices must be weighed in light of this fact and our decisions prayerfully made. We can’t afford to lean on our own understanding by being moved by what we see, influenced by our peers, constrained by the urgency of time, or dependent on our own ideas of what our lives are supposed to look like. Instead we must believe and trust that God knows what is best. That the things He prevents are for our protection. What He allows are for our benefit and the furtherance of His kingdom.

God will orchestrate the circumstances of our lives to give us joy and fulfillment while glorifying Himself. When we do things His way, we will never live in regret. Truly the blessing of the Lord makes us rich and adds no sorrow.

By Tony Udemba

Oghene Emma Egoh is a member of the House of Representatives, representing Amuwo Odofin federal constituency of Lagos State, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).He stated his concern for the growing hunger in the land and the discriminatory approach by the present government in its war against corruption, just as he described the whistle-blower policy as capable of reducing the spate of corruption in the country. He also spoke on insecurity and other topical issues. What are your views concerning the fight against corruption? There is no doubt that the government is doing its best in the on-going fight against corruption in the country, especially given the spate of discoveries of huge sums of funds both in local and foreign currencies  in the houses and business premises of some yet to be identified persons. Certainly with these discoveries,   the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is doing its best in fighting corruption which has continued to ravage the nation for too long. While this is going on,  a major concern  to most Nigerians is the pattern of discoveries of these huge sums of cash,  as exemplified by grave silence maintained by the EFCC on the ownership of the discovered funds , the premises from where the funds were hidden.  Simply put, EFFCC must tell the public the names of the owners of the recovered funds, as well as the owners of the properties where the funds were traced to. These are some of the questions on the lips of most Nigerians.Nigerians must be saved the puzzle of guessing about the ownership of the funds.  It is not just enough to tell us that they discovered billions in some apartments or premises in Ikoyi, Victoria Island or some other places, EFCC should go the extra mile and ensure that the names of those behind these hidden funds are made public.  The truth is that everyone is getting tired of these unending entertainment going on in the country.  Rather, everyone is anxiously waiting to know the true owners of the discovered funds. What is your take on the perceived targeting of PDP members in the anti-corruption war? There is no gainsaying that some members of our great party, PDP, are being targeted in the on-going anti-corruption war. We are greatly concerned about  this sad development going on in the country, and continue to insist that those agencies that are in charge of the fight against corruption must operate in line with the laws and constitution of the nation. In fighting corruption emphasis must be placed on ensuring that the due process of the law is followed, and certainly not in victimizing political opponents or perceived enemies of the government.  What we want is fair treatment to everyone irrespective of political inclinations.A situation where political opponents are hounded  into detentions, tried in the media, even before proper investigations start, is totally unacceptable. Certainly that is not the proper way of fighting corruption in the country. How would you rate the whistleblower’s policy of the government?I would want to commend the government for the introduction of the whistleblower policy, and most importantly for the successes so far recorded by the policy. At least we have seen, and continue to see, also on weekly basis lots of discoveries of huge sums of cash, both in local currencies been hidden by unknown individuals and personalities, in people’s homes and business premises.   It has not been too long that this policy was introduced in the nation, but you can see the amazing results recorded so far. What is your reaction to the proposed introduction of modular refinery system in the Niger Delta region? The proposed policy by the federal government to set up modular refineries in the oil-rich Niger Delta region is a welcome development. If fully implemented by the government it will certainly bring to a terminal end many years of illegal oil bunkering and youths restiveness in the area. The policy also has the potentials to address issues of unemployment, militancy, cultism and other violent criminal activities in the region.  But, like I said for this policy to be successful, the government must firstly, undertake a comprehensive census of operators of illegal petroleum refineries in the area to ensure that it has an accurate data of operators of such illegal refineries, as well as their locations.Secondly, government has to ensure that these illegal operators are part of the new arrangement, and that  they are carried along as stakeholders in the project. The truth is that if they are carried along and made to be part of the modular refineries policy arrangement of the government , certainly all the issues of crude oil theft and illegal oil refining will stop, and become a thing of the past. Again, government must ensure that these operators of illegal refineries are re-orientated and trained to understand the concept and operations of modular refineries. While the government might be considering foreign technologies for the modular refineries, my advice is that it should consider some of our local technologies with the capability of providing such solutions. What is your take on the economic difficulties in the country? It is unfortunate that many Nigerians are passing through hard times and find it increasingly difficult to fend for their families. If you go round the country you don’t need to be informed about the level of hardship and the many challenges our citizens are passing through. We have never had it this bad.The costs of food items and other essential commodities are in the upwards swing and simply out of the reach of the ordinary citizens. People are really suffering in the land, and I would like to urge the federal government to as a matter of urgency come up with palliative measures to bring down the costs of living and cushion the effect of the current difficulties in the country.Another face of difficulties in the country is the astronomical rise in the number of unemployed persons in the county. The growing number of unemployed persons in the country is simply too alarming and a big problem for the nation if not properly managed . Though this presents a critical picture for the future of the nation and its socio-economic development, there is no doubt that the situation demands an urgent attention of the governments at all levels.  There is the need for the government to urgently come  up with effective policies and initiatives aimed at boosting employment opportunities in order to positively engage the huge number  of job seekers. What is your take on the growing insecurity in the country? It is quite unfortunate that for some years now the nation has been grappling with  the challenges of insecurity of various shapes ranging from  terrorist attacks, armed robberies, kidnappings, herdsmen attacks, youth restiveness  and other types of violent crimes. The situation is further made difficult to curb due to the rising army of unemployed persons and the challenges of an under-equipped police force.   The truth is that with a huge population of unemployed persons , it might be difficult to tame the increasing rise in  armed robberies and other  violent crimes across the land.Again, if you  look at the sophistication of crimes  today in the country, you will no doubt agree with me that there is the urgent need for the federal  government to provide the police with adequate funding to enable them procure sophisticated weapons and equipment to frontally combat  criminal activities  across the country. I know that the government is doing its best in the fight against insecurity, but I strongly believe that the government has to do more in order to safeguard lives and property in Nigeria. What are your views on the frequent executive – legislators faceoff ?The three arms of the government work together, and act  as checks and balances to one another for the smooth running of the government. There is no doubt that there may be disagreements between the executive and legislative from time to time, but certainly these disagreements does not mean that they are fighting or quarrelling. One thing you must know is that in democracy there is bound to be agreements and disagreements. That is the beauty of our democracy. What is your take on the crises facing PDP?Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is like a big family, and you will agree with me that even in big families people are bound to have quarrel. But, the most important thing is that sooner after such quarrels they still have to come together in reconciliation to forge ahead, and even be more united than before.  Though some PDP members are in court today,  I am assuring you that sooner or later, the matter will be settled and PDP will be back again in full force. Certainly I have no doubt in my mind that our great party, PDP will come out of this crises to become more stronger and united as the biggest political party in Nigeria and Africa. I am calling all our members to continue to keep faith with the party. Our party is repositioning itself to retake power in 2019.

The Fate of the Fast and Furious

The Fate of the Furious
The Fast and Furious franchise was and still is an amazing success. Not only is it a delight to see these amazing drivers enjoy the fastest racing experience, but the simple fact that you get to see Fast 8 after the unfortunate passing of Paul Walker is extraordinary. We can imagine that this will be an amazing tribute, but at the same time we do know based on the trailers that the action is going to be off the rails.
The reason is rather simple. F&F movies were all about family and respect, but it seems that in this new installment we will have characters turning of a new leaf. This is certainly something that will bring in quite a bit of a challenge for the entire team.
The Fate of the Furious – Official Trailer
Based on the movie plot, Dom and Letty are on the honeymoon. Brian and Mia are retired from the game and the crew is exonerated. However, when it seems that the team is finally settling in, new challenges are coming in front of them and many of these are unlike anything they have ever seen.
Dom is seduced by a mysterious woman and he ends up back in the world of crime. He can’t escape for some reason, and this does bring in front some unique new challenges that everyone is going to overcome in one way or another.
Dom has to betray the people that are very close to him and, as you can imagine, this will bring in front a multitude of new challenges that you have to face along the way. It clearly shows that the movie will step away from the idea of the family at least in the beginning and it will focus more on notions like betrayal.
Aside from this plot, little is known about the movie Fast and Furious 8 at this point, but we can imagine that a bit more details will come from the trailers. What we do know is that Jason Statham’s character is becoming a good guy in the movie and he will team up with the Rock in one of the most interesting and exciting moments that everyone would like to see.
Plus, since the movie is set to focus quite a lot on robberies, you will find some very interesting mechanics and ideas to be found in here. That’s what makes the experience so interesting to begin with, the fact that The Fate of the Furious does tend to bring in some new set pieces, unique and action packed battles as well as plenty of drama that everyone will have to deal with at this point.
What does the Dom betrayal mean for the family, how can this bring in front a new leaf for the team? It’s hard to say, but what we do know is that The Fate of the Furious is set to be an explosive and action-packed movie. It’s certainly going to bring in front some interesting new ideas to the team and Charlize Theron’s villain seems downright crazy, which is exactly what you want to have in such a movie.

The Real deal on Love and Men

Friend, never give a man the luxury of wasting your time. Every day you spend with him is a day you’re off the market. Some men will string you along because they are selfish. They don’t want you permanently, but they like what you add to their lives. If they can feed you just enough carrots to keep you around, that works for them. Don’t let them. You’re simply putting off the hurt that’s coming your way. It will arrive eventually, and you’ll be more angry at yourself for allowing the relationship to drag on the way it did.

Keep your goal in mind. Set a time limit based on a reasonable dating period and how long you can afford to wait. Stick to your deadline, and be willing to walk. This is a gamble you must take because your future is at stake. You can’t afford to allow someone to have that much power over your future if he is not willing to make a full investment. Think of it this way. He is standing in the way of what you truly desire—a lifetime of love with a partner who sees and recognizes your worth. And that is a prize great enough to put a relationship on the line for.

The Ultimate Love Experience

The he ultimate love you can experience begins by observing the first two commandments as revealed by Jesus. The first is “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). The next is to “love your neighbor as yourself” (12:31). Fulfilling these is a full-time job that will take you a lifetime.

Perhaps we spend way too much time looking for someone to love us the way we should love ourselves. Too much time waiting for someone else to complete the picture in our lives when God already has. As we are consumed with love for God, we get a healthy appreciation for whom He created us to be, and we become whole in Him. That is transferred to how we treat others. Everything else becomes a pleasant addition to a cup already running over.

As we walk in expectation and a spirit of gratitude, God gives us the grace we need to live joyfully each and every day no matter what our current status. Finding love should never be complicated, just God orchestrated. Trust His timing. Trust the fact that He created you desirable and lovable. Trust that God has the best plans for your life. Trust Him because the best is yet to come.

The Game of Love

Colossians 3:15 says to “let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” Another translation of this verse urges you to allow peace to be the referee or umpire in your heart. This makes sense if you have ever been to a baseball game. The player hits the ball and takes off running. The fielder catches the ball and throws it to first base. The runner and ball get there at the same time. The fans who are rooting for the runner insist that he was safe. Those rooting for the defensive team insist that he was out. Both believe what they saw.

The point is, what you want has a lot to do with what you see. If you want this person to be right for you, you tend to only see things that confirm your feelings. But if you allow peace to be the umpire, your heart will be able to rest in the fact that at the right time the right man will declare his love and commitment for you. That peace will enable you to see things as they really are and make the right call on your relationship.

When the runner and the ball have arrived at the base at the same time, no matter what the fans believe they saw, the umpire gives a signal for either safe or out. If you do not have peace about the person you are thinking about marrying, you need to declare them out. Unrest is the Holy Spirit trying to tell you that your heart is not safe with this person. You should not marry him in this case, even if he appears to be perfect for you. He is possibly the right person, but perhaps it is the wrong time. The bottom line: If you do not have peace, then something is wrong. You must wait!

Once again, this brings us back to the concept of being whole. You will know the peace of God about marriage if you have peace in general. If peace isn’t a regular aspect of your life, will you know when it leaves? When the right person enters your life, your peace will remain. When the wrong person enters, your peace will leave.

He loves you still

“Our failings are cruel voices that accuse and demoralize us. They tell us that we are no longer worthy of God’s love and attention. That we’ve messed up big time. That there is no redemption of our circumstance. Our self-worth plummets, and we begin to agree with our accuser that there is nothing good in us, nothing worth salvaging. And then Jesus comes with a new commission for our lives, heaping blessings on top of our incredulity that He still loves us in spite of our foolishness. He extends His grace to us for a new beginning and a better tomorrow, and we’re made a little stronger and a whole lot wiser. THANK GOD FOR HIS MERCIES, for He knows we are but dust. Thank God that He is the God of as many chances as we need to get it right!”

God Speaks, all you need to do is listen.

“Shortcomings truly do cause us to “act out,” to overcompensate for the me we think we should be. Trying to measure up to the standards of others can be debilitating because we will undoubtedly fall short of their expectations. The beauty we can find in the midst of our own imagined failings is that God loves us just the way we are. He doesn’t think we’re too tall, too short, too fat, too thin, too dark, too light, too ugly, or too anything. He just sees His child struggling for affirmation, for the reassurance that we’re all right. And based on our relationship with Him, He gently reminds us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Deliberately crafted just the way we are to be a unique member of His divine family. One that He welcomes with open arms because all of our imperfections become perfect in the light of His love.”

EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL: WHY I STARTED WITH MATA, SMALLING – MOURINHO

EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL: WHY I STARTED WITH MATA, SMALLING – MOURINHO

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has revealed why he chose Juan Mata to start in place of Anthony Martial for the Europa League final against Ajax.

The Spain midfielder was an unused substitute for their second leg semi-final against Celta Vigo and did not feature at all against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Anthony Martial played the second half against The Eagles, but started on the bench on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to BT Sport prior to kick off, the Portuguese explained that his decision was purely tactical.

“Juan Mata is in,” Mourinho said.

“It is important to start with experience and a brain and then go to speed and freshness.”

The United manager also explained why he picked Chris Smalling instead of Phil Jones.

“I was pushed to choose Chris Smalling and not Phil Jones because he recovered from injury one week quicker.”

‘WE’D EXCHANGE CUP FOR VICTIMS’ LIVES’ – MANCHESTER UNITED’S MOURINHO

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said his side would give up their Europa League trophy if it would bring back the 22 victims of Monday’s terror attack in Manchester.

United beat Ajax 2-0 in Stockholm on Wednesday to win the Europa League for the first time, but the game was overshadowed by the deadly suicide attack on concert-goers at Manchester Arena, which also left dozens injured.

“If we could, we would obviously change the people’s lives for this cup, immediately,” Mourinho told reporters at the Friends Arena.

“We wouldn’t think twice. Does this cup make the city of Manchester a little bit happier? Maybe. But we just came to do our job.

“We came without the happiness we should bring with us, because when you come for these big matches you come happy, you come proud. And we didn’t. we just came to do our job.”

The game was preceded by a minute’s silence, which was interrupted by applause from both sets of fans, and United’s players wore black armbands.

Mourinho agreed with European governing body UEFA’s decision for the match to go ahead, but said the victory would always be associated with sad thoughts about what happened in Manchester.

“It’s really hard,” said the Portuguese, whose pre-match press conference on Tuesday was cancelled.

“That’s why yesterday we didn’t want to have the press conference because we had to prepare ourselves to do our job and to try to forget events that are obviously much more important than our job.

“But the world goes on. It doesn’t stop and we have to do our work. I agree with the UEFA decision to play the match.

“But if we have questions like your questions that made us return to this tragedy, obviously it takes happiness from our achievement.”

Paul Pogba, who opened the scoring in the game, dedicated the triumph to the victims, saying: “We played for the people who died.”

“These things are terrible all over the world, in London and in Paris,” said Pogba, who was also playing at the Stade de France on the night of the November 2015 Paris terror attacks.

“We went out focused to win and we won for Manchester and the country,” he told BT Sport.

“We played for England, we played for Manchester and we played for the people who died.”

ENRAGED YOUTHS ATTACK FILLING STATIONS OVER MARKETERS' STRIKE

ENRAGED YOUTHS ATTACK FILLING STATIONS OVER MARKETERS' STRIKE

Some youths suspected to be political thugs today descended on some filling stations in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state capital, destroying properties worth millions of naira in protest against the continued strike of fuel marketers.

Fuel marketers in the state since Monday, last week, stopped selling fuel to motorists in compliance with the directives of their national bodies to suspend selling of fuel to members of the public.

The leadership of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) and Petrol Tanker Drivers (PTD) had asked their members in Ekiti to stop bringing the product to the state, threatening to sanction any member that flouted the order.

They are protesting a legal action instituted by the state government after both parties had reached an agreement on how to resolve the impasse over the demolition of some filling stations government said were built in residential areas.

Filling stations badly vandalized during the attack included NIPCO, along Adebayo street, Ado Ekiti, owned by Alhaji Suleiman Akinbami, who is also the  secretary, Petroleum Marketing Dealers in Ekiti state, Tetra Abby Company Ltd, also at Adebayo and its branch along Dallimore street, both owned by a marketer popularly called Ade Bank.

The attackers, armed with dangerous weapons such as axes, cutlasses, bottles, according to an eyewitness, arrived NIPCO as early as 7.10am, and unleashed attack on the filling station.

An official of NIPCO said, "The thugs came in three vehicles. One Hilux van with government's number plate and two mini buses, popularly called 'Akoto'. They were armed with dangerous weapons. We had to scale the fence to escape through the back fence because they were aimed at killing whoever dared to challenge them."

Our correspondent observed that all the 12 dispensing machines at the filling stations were vandalized and their offices not spared. Both  glass windows and doors of the building housing their supermarkets and lubricant were also smarched.

…NUT suspends strike

The Bayelsa State Government has released the sum of N300 million to augment payment of primary school teachers in all the Local Government Areas of the state.

Consequently, the Bayelsa State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has suspended the ongoing strike action with immediate effect.

A statement issued, on Tuesday, by the Chairman of the state NUT, Kalaama John Tonpre, and Secretary, Johnson Hector, expressed appreciation to the state government for its gesture, as it would go a long way in alleviating their plight.

Others who endorsed the statement are the Chairmen of 5 LGAs, including the Vice Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Kuroghofa Walter Benwari and its Secretary, Ebiango Egain.

The resolution to stop the strike, the union said, was reached after exhaustive deliberations between the various LGAs and Executives of the NUT in Yenagoa.

According to the statement, the NUT expressed appreciation to the state government for its financial assistance and resolved that, the local government councils were to facilitate the payment of the February, 2017 salaries to teachers.

The statement further stated that no teacher would be victimised by any local government council in the state for participating in the industrial action, adding that other issues raised by the NUT would be subsequently addressed.

I GO DYE’S MANSION FOR MUM VALUED AT 5.4 MILLION DOLLARS

I GO DYE’S MANSION FOR MUM VALUED AT 5.4 MILLION DOLLARS

Since highly rated comedian I Go Dye unveiled the house he built for his mum last Sunday, curiosity has been set adrift in many quarters, with tongues wagging on the possible estimation of the value of the palatial edifice. The Golden Eyes castle is situated at Amb. Francis Agoda Virgin Island, while the almost completed Royal Golden seal is seated at Amb Francis Agoda sugar land, both castles  have attracted many viewers who are fascinated by its uniqueness.

The House, Inset: Comedian, I go Dye

However, Potpourri’s investigation has revealed just how much the mansions must have cost the comedian. According to an architect/ estate developer Wale Balogun ‘’one cannot presume knowledge of accurate sight alone’ but from the structural design and fortification of the castle in question here, both properties will be estimated to the tune of 5.4 million dollars.”

Potpourri further learnt that both castles were contracted to a French company Monreve, which handled all the sculptural and concrete enforcement while Revamp Construction Company owned by the comedian, handled  the building  of the castfles.

“The Golden Eyes which was presented to his mum last Sunday has a unique customized golden sculptured face moulded in the image of his grand mum, Queen Agnes  who nurtured him as a young kid,”  Lilian Akpomene a close friend to the comedian told Potpourri

“Indeed this edifice has a monumental standard, which  will out live  contemporary designs of today and a long time to come. If the essence of a home is just to sleep, I guess a home structurally built as a castle, as a gift to express gratitude for love, is really meant to reflect the true value of what mothers mean to the world,” she added.

WHO TASKS NIGERIA TO IMPROVE ON PATIENT SAFETY

WHO TASKS NIGERIA TO IMPROVE ON PATIENT SAFETY

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for improved efforts towards patient safety in Nigeria.

WHO Country Representative to Nigeria, Dr. Wondimagegnehu Alemu made the call during a national healthcare management conference on patient safety held recently in Abuja. He said the present situation revealed that there was more work to be done to achieve patient safety in Nigeria and in Africa.

“The burden of unsafe healthcare delivery is huge, not only to the patient but to the healthcare system and to the nation in the long run, as it results in loss of confidence in the healthcare system,” he said.

He said common patient safety issues include misdiagnosis, medication errors including antimicrobial resistance, workforce safety, healthcare-associated infections, and surgery-related complications.

He said the leadership in healthcare must rise to the situation by providing a conducive environment for change in practices, regulation and coordination of patient safety interventions and efforts, adding that this could be done through provision of strategic direction and sustained political will for the institutionalisation of patient safety culture in our healthcare system.

The WHO representative said priority actions to start with include: development of a policy for strategic direction and mainstreaming patient safety, building capacity of health workers and employing the use of safe and suitable infrastructure as well as ensuring maintenance culture and safety of the healthcare environment for patients and even the healthcare providers, among others.

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole who was represented by Dr. Omobolanle Olowu said many patients have gone to health facilities to seek solutions to their health problems only to come out worse off because of so many unwarranted causes that could be avoided.

He said the country must urgently find strategies to medical errors, negligence to patients so that they could be reduced or completely avoided.

Dean, Rova College of Healthcare Executives, Dr. Emmanuel Abolo called for systems, and orientation of healthcare providers that would make it difficult for errors to occur.

Executive Director of International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH), Chief Moji Makanjuola, said there was need to mentor young doctors in order to end the many preventable deaths from medical errors.

JAMB TO DUMP FINGERPRINT FOR NEW VERIFICATION TECH – OLOYEDE

JAMB TO DUMP FINGERPRINT FOR NEW VERIFICATION TECH – OLOYEDE

The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has revealed plans by the agency to dump using finger print for accreditation of candidates participating in its annual examination for a new technology.

Oloyede made the disclosure while conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the ongoing UTME on Thursday at the JKK Computer Based Test (CBT) centre in Lagos.

According to the JAMB Registrar, many Nigerians are criminally-innovative. He said despite effort put in place by the examination body to stem incidences of impersonation and cheating in the exams, many candidates, CBT centre owners and even parents still find ways to beat the system.

He expressed worry that about 70 percent of the private CBT centres engage in fraud, but that, henceforth measures would be put in place to stem cheating.

“But as they try to beat us, we are there before them. We have seen many people you would call eminent Nigerians who are school owners, centre owners and even with PhD qualifications, who are engaging in fraudulent practices. It is shocking and embarrassing too. But JAMB is far ahead of them.

“It is sad to note that many parents are bunch of disappointments. In their efforts to cheat the system, many were discovered to have engaged the services of fraudulent operators who in turn engage the CBT owners for candidates’ registration. In the process, problems arose. Many have been arrested and more may still be arrested.

“As long as we are here, the sanctity and integrity of our examination will be protected. All the private CBT centres where the issues have been identified with won’t be accredited by JAMB,” Oloyede said.

The JAMB Registrar also disclosed that so far, a total of 1,648,429 candidates have sat for the 2017 examination as at Wednesday and that the results of 1,048,914 candidates have even been released.

The Smartest thing you can do for your happiness and success

The older you grow, the more quiet you become. Life humbles you gradually as you age. You realize how much nonsense you’ve wasted time on.

The biggest nonsense creator of them all?

Your mind… and the fantasies it likes to project into every facet of your life. You’ve likely fantasized your way into headaches and heartaches hundreds of times in the past! And you aren’t alone either.

We all stress ourselves out… because of fantasies.

We all procrastinate to the point of failure… because of fantasies.

We all get angry with others, with ourselves, and with the world at large… because of fantasies.

We all miss out on many of life’s most beautiful and peaceful moments… because of fantasies.

This might seem hard to believe at first, so let’s look at some super common examples…

When we wake up and immediately start fantasizing and worrying about all the things we have to do, we aren’t really doing anything but adding stress to an otherwise pleasant morning. When we fear the potential of failure, and we procrastinate in response to our fear, our fearful fantasies force us to miss great opportunities for success. When someone upsets us, this is often because they aren’t behaving according to our fantasy of how they “should” behave. The frustration, then, stems not from their behavior but from how their behavior differs from our fantasy. When we think about making a healthy change in our lives (like getting in shape), we are initially inspired by the fantasy of how easy it will be, but… that’s not reality. So when the reality of working hard to exercise and eat right surfaces, and it doesn’t match up with our inspiring fantasy, we give up.When we’re having a conversation with someone, we’re distracted with fantasies of how this person views us, or we’re distracted by our propensity to fantasize about how to respond before they even finish talking, and thus we miss the opportunity to connect more deeply with them. When we move through our days, our minds are stuck fantasizing about other times and places, and so we miss the pleasant surprises and simple pleasures surrounding us.

Of course, sometimes we get out of our own heads long enough to focus on the present and make the best of it, but it’s NOT often enough. So remind yourself, as often as necessary, to see the moment for what it really is, not what you think it should be. Accept it, so you can make the best of it...

Do what you have to do without worrying and fearing the worst, lamenting about what might happen, or obsessing over how difficult your work is. Just begin, take it one step at a time, and do the best you can.

See others for who they are, and accept them, without needless judgments. Choose not to allow their behavior to dominate your thoughts and emotions. Just be present and accepting. Then decide if you want to spend extra time with them. If not, part ways peacefully.

Carry your presence with you wherever you go. Appreciate the little moments. Remind yourself that there are few joys in life that equal a good laugh, a good conversation, a good morning walk, a good afternoon hug, or a good deep breath at the end of the day.

In the end, we can fantasize all we want, but it doesn’t improve our reality.

Just think about your life and what happens when you let your fantasies get the best of you.

It certainly doesn’t lead to happiness and success.

When you constantly tell yourself little self-deprecating lies — fantasies — you start believing them and your behavior naturally backs the lies up. You start procrastinating. You put your biggest goals on the back burner. You always feel guilty and regretful for not taking action. You give up when the first obstacle comes your way. You blame others. Your important relationships take a major hit. And the list goes on and on.

And you know what the really scary part is? Most people don't know they are digging themselves a hole by repetitively listening to their fantasies and the negative self-talk they produce.

To get yourself out of this mess, you need to literally rewire your brain and replace the negative, distracted mindsets with positive, productive ones. For example, instead of saying, "I don't think I have what it takes," you must start saying, "I can figure this out!" And by doing so, you'll stop saying, "I’m not ready yet," and you'll start taking action because the new mindset is something along the lines of "I am ready to learn and grow!”

As I've said, there are dozens of different variations of fantasies that can hurt your self-image and — as a result — your immediate happiness and success. But it's also important to remember that they will affect many other areas of your life in the long run too, like:

Lack of confidence at workHeartbreaking stress in your relationshipsLittle motivation to do anything new at alletc.

If you have caught yourself stuck with similar fantasies and negative thought patterns, you need to take action ASAP. The longer you let these little demons linger around, the harder it is to get rid of them.

And of course, if you're struggling with any of this, know that you are not alone. Many of us are right there with you, working hard to feel better, think more clearly, and get our lives back on track.

How to make money from your blog

Proven Blog Cash Strategy Revealed!

Turn Prospects to Friends; Friends to Customers and Raving Fans

How To Profit From Your Blog

Today, I will answer the questions I get from many of my readers about how to REALLY profit from a blog.

At this point in my newsletters, I want to believe you already know what blogging is all about.

All the time, I see people who own blogs but they have got no idea on exactly how to turn their blogs into a business that brings in cash.

Others are tied down by the belief that they can only make money from Google Adsense, or selling Clickbank or Amazon products.

So they wait endlessly for almighty Google to approve their accounts and look for shortcuts to get Clickbank to send them checks. At the end of the day, these people are defrauded or they are stagnated or simply lose hope because of inability to make any headway whatsoever.

Over the years I have been online, I have experimented with a lot of them and now know what works anywhere in the world, even in Nigeria.

Before we go ahead to discuss ways to profit from a blog, I will tell why you need a blog in the first place.

Why Everyone And Businesses Need A Blog

In recent time, the internet had undergone serious changes and social media and networking has changed the entire Internet marketing landscape.

One of the top social media tools available for marketing of products and services today is a blog. No wonder one of the top searches done on the web by Nigerians is the keyword: “how to start a blog

It’s obvious even Nigerians and small businesses are realizing the importance of blogging to businesses.

Owning a blog help you to accomplish 3 things.

It is a lead magnet for your business (It helps to attract your exact audience to your business)It is a platform that help you to build a relationship that establishes trust for your brand or name.It offers a way to showcase your products and services politely without annoying your readers or pushing them to patronize you.

Once you have a blog, selling a product, services, or just branding yourself becomes easy.

So if you own an unsuccessful blog already that is not achieving any of the threeobjectives above or you are planning to start one, my advice is to undergo a training that will help you achieve that. The Blog Cash Videoscomes handy in this case. You can access it by clicking here

Ways To Actually Make Money From Blogs

Here are the things you need to do to start making good money from blogs here in Nigeria.

1. Sell Your Products or Services Using Your Blog

Do you have a physical product, a shop with goods, or you are a small business person who has a hard time selling your products.

Set up a blog and target it to one of the products that has the potential to sell more than others in your store. Then when you do get customers to buy, gradually up-sell them to the rest of the products and services you have in stock.

Let’s say you are a fashion designer, and you know different styles and fashions that you can create clothes on.

Here are the things you can do on your blog…

You can write an article on the latest fashion styleYou can offer to teach this style to other fashion designers who wants to upgrade their knowledge and charge them fee for that. You can display latest clothes made out of that fashionYou can publish latest news and updates on the latest fashion craze in town.

If you are in Real Estate, a photographer, a dentist, an engineer, a pharmacist, a painter or whatever profession or services you can offer, setting up a blog will help you to get more client for your business to move forward.

2. Write An Information Book

One area I have excelled greatly in blogging is through the selling of books. More precisely electronic books [ebooks].

I have collectively sold thousands of copies of books I authored on my blog using proactive blogging.

So if you want to make money as well, try writing a simple book and selling it on your blog. Now don’t get me wrong, writing a book is not difficult. You can write a simple 20 paged book that solves a problem that people desperately need solution to.

For example, if you have information on how any Nigerian youth can “Work and Study Abroad”, all you need to do is to open up Microsoft Word, type and organise the information in a way that people will actually enjoy reading it.

More importantly, ensure that this information is correct and real. If you have such a product, and you own a blog on how to secure educational Visa abroad, no doubt, your readers will be happy to purchase such information from you.

You can write short reports like that in many other areas like health, relationship, investment, football, computing etc.

As long as your blog audience is targeted, you will be able to sell several hundred copies or even thousands of that product overtime as passive income.

3. Become A Consultant

What can you do very well in your life better than most people? Can you successfully help anyone to achieve the result he desires in some areas of life?

For instance, if you are an Estate agent, you can open up a consultancy outfit using your blog to direct people to your office.

If you know how to make a certain perfume, you can become a consultant and offer classes teaching people how to do that.

If you know how to design or develop websites, you can offer such services as well as a web development consultant.

Are you an Architect?
A Lawyer?
A Doctor?
An Artist?
A Teacher?
An Entrepreneur
A Business person

Whatever your profession, identify areas that you can help people with solutions to their problems and set up a consultancy services and you will sell with your blog.

4. Create And Sell Courses

Do you have a skill you would want to teach people how to do? Are you a graphic designer? Do you know you can actually prepare a video course along with tutorials on how to use the videos to learn a particular thing.

The videos and tutorials can be broken down and each video teaching one concept or another. This whole course can be burnt on a DVD or CD ROM, packaged and sold as an information product.

An example of this type of course is The  Blog Cash Videos Here. Though, this course doesn’t have a DVD but it can be easily burnt and sent to people who may have problem with Internet access.

5. Sell Advertisement Space

Some high traffic blogs make their money selling advertisement on their blogs. An example is Linda Ikeji blog

You see, Linda gets hundreds of thousands of website visitors to her blog every month, so companies, individuals and organisations pay for adverts to be placed on her blog for a period of time.

Additionally, Linda also places Adsense like adverts like Google Adsense webmaster account and is paid monthly for clicks made by website visitors on her blog.

So if you have got your blog to a stage where you get at least 1,000 visitors per day, then you can consider selling advert space on your blog because advertisers must ensure you truly get website visitors before they can pay you for the advert placement.

I once mentioned in one of my newsletters that there’s something Linda is not doing on her blog website that if she does it, she will multiply her income by 3 times.

One of those things is becoming a direct affiliate to the products that have those advertisements on her blog. Some of the companies that place those adverts are making more from Linda’s blog traffic than she is from just collecting advert placement fees.

There are other things she is also missing out that if she does it, will shoot her income through the roof.

So if you want to make money blogging, what I have just outlined above is the simple way to go about it.

Basically, everything boils down to selling a product or service to your proposed audience and these products must be anchored on your blog.

Yet some people may still worry and still ask this question: “But I don’t have a product yet, how can I make money blogging?”

If you belong to this group of people, all I will say is this: The most important (and hardest) aspect of blogging is deciding on the niche market to blog about.

Once you have sorted that out, everything thing will fall into place.

For now, here are the things you need to do to get started.

Identify your audienceCreate your blogPublish interesting articles on itDrive targeted traffic or website visitorsBuild a list of newsletter readers.

Once you have done the above 5 things, focus on helping people solve their problems by writing more free articles, taking surveys to find the areas where people have problems.

Once you have some readers, they will take your survey and tell you where they have problems. Your job will be to go online to source for this information.

Once you have it….

BOOM… You now have a product!

And guess what?

Because you took a survey to find out what your readers needed before making it available to them, once you present this solution to them in the form of a book or whatever format, you will sell out.

Zack Snyder Steps Down From 'Justice League' to Deal With Family Tragedy

Zack Snyder Steps Down From 'Justice League' to Deal With Family Tragedy

Zack Snyder with wife Deborah

The filmmaker's daughter died by suicide in March, prompting him to take a break from work and hire Joss Whedon to finish the Warner Bros. superhero pic: "I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me."

Superheroes have always been about doing the right thing in the hardest of circumstances. Now Zack Snyder, one of the biggest filmmakers in the genre and the director of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Justice League, finds himself in just such a situation.

Snyder tells The Hollywood Reporter he is stepping away from Justice League, Warner Bros.’ all-star DC Comics superhero mega-movie that is in postproduction, in order to deal with the sudden death of his daughter. Snyder's wife, Deborah Snyder, who is a producer on Justice League, also is taking a break to focus on the healing of their family.

Stepping in to shepherd the movie through post and the shooting of some additional scenes will be Joss Whedon, the Avengers filmmaker and creator ofBuffy the Vampire Slayer. With Whedon's help, the movie is still on track for its Nov. 17 release date.

Snyder’s daughter Autumn Snyder died by suicide in March at age 20. Her death has been kept private, with only a small inner circle aware of what happened, even as the movie was put on a two-week break for the Snyders to deal with the immediate effects of the tragedy. Zack Snyder says he initially was eager to return to the film, which stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller.

“In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it,” said an emotional Snyder in an interview Monday in his office on the Warner Bros. lot, with Deborah sitting by his side. “The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming. And in the last two months, I’ve come to the realization … I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’mhaving a hard time.”

The studio is fully behind the move. “What they are going through is unimaginable, and my heart — our hearts — go out to them," says Warner Bros. Pictures president Toby Emmerich.

One of the first things the studio floated was the possibility of pushing back the release date of the movie, but the Snyders decided against that. Warners also extended Snyder's first-look deal to give him time to work on other planned projects when he returns to work.

Snyder, after screening a rough cut ofJustice League for fellow filmmakers and friends, wanted to add additional scenes, so he brought Whedon on board to write them. But as he prepared to shoot the scenes in England, Snyder realized it was not the time to leave home. “The directing is minimal and it has to adhere to the style and tone and the template that Zack set,” says Emmerich. “We’re not introducing any new characters. It’s the same characters in some new scenes. He’s handing the baton to Joss, but the course has really been set by Zack. I still believe that despite this tragedy, we’ll still end up with a great movie.”

This isn’t the first time that Warner Bros. has had to deal with the unthinkable affecting a high-profile DC movie. In 2008, Heath Ledger passed away after shooting had wrapped forThe Dark Knight but prior to the movie being finished and released. The tragedy put the studio and filmmaker Christopher Nolan in a very delicate position of balancing mourning with the demands of releasing a tentpole.

The internet and comic book movie fans being what they are, Snyder already is anticipating what some DC loyalists may think.

“Here’s the thing, I never planned to make this public,” he says. “I thought it would just be in the family, a private matter, our private sorrow that we would deal with. When it became obvious that I need to take a break, I knew there would be narratives created on the internet. They’ll do what they do. The truth is … I’m past caring about that kind of thing now.”

The death of Autumn, Zack's daughter from his first marriage, to Denise Snyder (in addition to Autumn, he and Deborah have been raising seven kids and step-kids), has brought a new perspective and a new focus for him. “I want the movie to be amazing, and I’m a fan, but that all pales pretty quickly in comparison," he says. “I know the fans are going to be worried about the movie, but there are seven other kids that need me. In the end, it’s just a movie. It’s a great movie. But it’s just a movie."

Autumn, who was attending Sarah Lawrence College, loved “to write, to write, to write,” says Deborah. Their daughter had written a sci-fi fantasy novel in the first person. It featured a character who was an outsider and who had trouble fitting in.

Deborah is holding on to the thought that she was the first person her daughter gave the book to read, even now as the story takes on a new meaning under the circumstances. “You’re hearing her voice,” Deborah says, fighting back tears.

The Snyders would like to some day see that manuscript published, with the proceeds going to a charity. “In the end, she didn’t make it, but her character does, and I think there would be something cathartic for people,” says Zack.

The thought of his daughter’s writing prompts Zack to recall another memory. Autumn had a quote that she included in everything she wrote. (“Every. Single. Thing,” chuckles Zack.) It’s from author Chuck Palahniuk: “We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.”

“Maybe this helps,” says Zack.

Set Sexual Boundaries

SET SEXUAL BOUNDARIES!
(For all Christians: pastors, deacons, deaconesses, elders, dep'tal leaders, members)

“I made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin? (Job 31:1, NET BIBLE')

Sexual immorality is on the increase all over the world. Adultery is fast becoming the norm and men of God are also joining the club. Married women are not left out, many are having secret lovers and emotional affairs are becoming the order of the day.

The rate at which immorality is increasing is alarming! It is spreading fast into every nook and cranny and children are also being initiated into the club. It's no news that 4, 5 years old kids now have sex with each other. Staying sexually pure these days is becoming a Herculean task.

One of the reasons people fall flat into illicit sex is over confidence. The stupid belief that you can be free around the opposite sex and nothing would happen!

A lot will happen! One of the ways you can stay sexually pure whether married or single these end time is to set strict boundaries. If you are too careless around the opposite sex, you will fall flat on your face! That is the truth. The ealier you believe this and work on it, the better. You can't be careless around the opposite sex and hope to stay sexually pure, set boundaries!

There are some people who can't be your friends, raise the standard. Any body can call you names, that's their headache, you have your destiny to protect. As a rule, I don't make friends with liars, gossips and jealous people. They make life so complicated. If you believe in illicit sex, we can't be friends, period!

Monitor your chats. Don't allow anybody send you flirty messages, no matter how innocent it sounds, warn them and if they refuse to stop, block them!

Limit the hugs and touches. I don't hug women as a rule. If I must hug, my wife must be around and you should hug both of us. If your hugging anointing is only for me, I want none of it.

Don't allow anybody call you pet names (except your close family members and same sex friends), it doesn't make any sense. Pet names turn the opposite on, if you don't know that, know it right now.

Be sensitive to attractions. Don't be naive around the opposte sex, know when a man/ woman is sexually attracted to you and move back from that person. If they focus too much on your physique and body, they are sexually attracted to you, move back.

Know when you are sexually attracted to someone and move back. It's perfectly normal to have chemistry for someone. Marrying the greatest man on earth or the most beautiful, virtous woman in the universe will not automatically stop you from being attracted to someone else. Know when the thought of another man/ woman get you excited and move back.

Don't jump at new relationships. Give it time. Study the person, know what they stand for, see if your core values are compatible, if not, move back!

Leadership attracts all kinds of people. If you are a leader or you are gifted, talented or intelligent, the opposite sex will show more interest in you, be careful whom you allow to get close to you.

Accepts gifts with care. Men don't joke with their time and money. If he spends so much time and money on you especially when you do not ask, he may one day ask for sex. Stop begging men for money. Work with your two hands and raise your standard. Men will respect and honour you for it.

Work on your marriage. Fix the problem as soon as possible or else you get attracted to someone who gives you what you lack in your marriage, adultery is the result.

Be prayerful, be watchful. Jesus says "watch and pray that ye may not fall into temptation..."

Don't stay with the opposite sex in a dark or lonely room.

Don't counsel the opposite sex on a bed in a lonely room.

Avoid provocative dresses and pictures. Let your spouse or parents advise you on what is okay for you.

Mind the pictures you post on the social media, if it is getting unecessary opposite sex attention, delete it.

Don't visit the opposite sex alone, especially at night. It doesn't make sense.

These and more are the things you need to do to stay sexually pure in this 21st century.

People may laugh at you, it doesn't matter. They may call you a neurotic, psychotic, fanatic, over sensitive or paranoid, don't give a damn! Your destiny is too precious to waste on the altar of sin. Avoid friends who make fun of holiness and make friends with people who appreciate purity and holiness.

Finally, avoid the second look, as far possible. I agree perfectly with Job on his resolution never to look lustfully at any lady. Yes, you can avoid the second look. Set your boundaries and never allow anyone to compromise your holiness.
Stay blessed.

Life's Tips

*BALANCE*

1. *Noah* built the *ark* by faith but, he used measurements. There is a place for rational thinking in our walk of faith. Not all decisions should be made with blind hope!

2. *Sarah's pregnancy* was a miracle, but it took nine months just like any other. God's plans do not negate the importance of process. Sometime you need to wait or work it out.

3. The *stone* that killed *Goliath* might have been anointed, but *David's skill* was also involved. Developing skills does not mean you are not anointed. If you play a piano, play it to the fullest. Don't take us through the agony of listening to your cacophony in the name of "singing to the Lord". Skills are important. There is nothing rude with telling that sister "you can't sing, find something else to do in the house of God".

4. *Esther* received favor to become *queen*, but she also bathed and prepared her appearance. Preparation is key to become fit for the occasion. Get knowledge, go to school. Stop blaming auto-correct, check your spelling even here on social media. Prepare, because some of us expect nothing but the best from you!

5. The *promised land* was full of milk and honey, but they also had to plow, feed cattle, and take care of sheep. Miracles are communication tools that God uses to instill trust, faith and the knowledge of his nature. You need to work, don't expect miracles in a specific area of life all the time. No one pays rent for a full year with miracle money. We need it, we want it, but God wants what is permanent.

6. *God* is the one who *created human capacity* to memorize things, yet he also told many prophets to write their message. Spirituality does not mean we should not use tools to package the message.

7. *Ruth* received favor to marry *Boaz*, but the coaching of Naomi was necessary. Human coaching is necessary, you need to submit and learn from someone. It will spare you from silly mistakes.

8. *Moses* could hear directly from God, but he was wearing himself out with work, it was the wisdom of his father in law that saved him from dying a premature death with exhaustion. It is wisdom to put on a seat belt, brush teeth, and adhere to medical advise. Being spiritual does not mean asking angels to cook food for you!

9. *Namaan* was a mighty soldier and a friend of Kings, but he acted as influenced by a Jewish maiden. Even important people are influenced by"insignificant"people. The key thing is proximity that generates influence.

Mishandling of the natural world can cause hinderance to progress, and a total neglect of the spiritual world will definitely cause total failure in all areas of life.

Balance is the key.

Every Relationship Needs a Little Personal Space

Every Relationship Needs a Little Personal Space

Every relationship is a balancing act with personal space—between personalities, between wants and needs, and between spending time together and giving yourselves time apart. Once your relationship has gone through the honeymoon phase—you know, those weeks or months when all you want to do is spend time with each other—you'll reach a point where all the attention, checking in, and one-on-one time can start to feel like too much. But don't worry, your relationship isn't doomed! You've just gotten to the point where your personal space has become a priority again. Our experts are here to break down just how important a little personal space can be.

Spending time away from your partner doesn't mean you are no longer in love or that you shouldn't get married. Instead, it means you're taking time to put yourself first and do things that are just for you—choices that will make you feel great about yourself, putting you in a better mindset to take care of your relationship.

You and your partner may be a match made in heaven, but you're not the same person. You are individuals with your own interests, dreams, and goals, and allowing a little personal space into your relationship will allow you each to pursue those, even if they aren't the same for both of you. He may go for a bike ride while you head to yoga, or you may want to meet a friend for a cocktail while he's watching Lebron dunk with his buddies. Having your own lives outside of your relationship will ensure that you don't lose sight of your individual identities. Defining and staying true to who you are, in your own terms instead of within the context of your relationship, is vital to your personal happiness, and the happier you are with yourself, the happier you'll be with your partner.

Think about both of your emotional needs; to some, constant contact can feel smothering instead of affectionate, and you or your partner might need a little quiet time to avoid getting emotionally exhausted. Knowing what you need personally (and being able to ask your partner for it) will help set your relationship up for continued strength and success.
Giving yourselves some personal space can also give you a better perspective on your relationship. Whether you have a conflict to deal with or are planning for the future, having time to yourself will enable you to think more critically about whatever it is the two of you might be going through. You may find inspiration elsewhere that could be useful in your marriage or simply benefit from a little time spent thinking about or doing something else.

Personal space can be anything from a quiet bath after a long day to a weekend away with your friends, so don't be afraid to ask for some "me" time if you need it—and remember to offer it to your partner as well.

The Decades-Old Wedding Etiquette That Isn't Going Anywhere

The Decades-Old Wedding Etiquette That Isn't Going Anywhere

Wedding etiquette isn't the same as it was 20 years ago, and neither are the very weddings themselves. From living together before you're married to wearing a color other than white and registering for a honeymoon instead of new plates, a lot has changed. However, there are some things that will always stay the same. Here are four time-honored pieces of wedding etiquette that our experts know aren't going anywhere.

Be Gracious

More than just saying "please" and "thank you" and writing your thank-you noteson time, being gracious is a state of mind that you should carry throughout your wedding day. Be kind and pleasant as you work with your vendors or deal with yourbridal party, be warm and welcoming asyour guests arrive, and be polite, positive, and courteous. It may be your big day, but by acknowledging and appreciating what others have done to make it happen, you'll stick in their minds as a bride for the books, not a bridezilla for the gossip mill.

Celebrate Within Your Means

Money is a touchy subject, and it can become emotionally charged when it comes to your wedding. Whether you are paying for your celebration yourself or have received a gift from a family member to cover the costs, be acutely aware ofhow much you have to spend—and don't go beyond that amount. There is no need to go into debt for your wedding. Your celebration will be special and beautiful no matter what you're paying for it.

Be Present

It's easy to get caught up in the to-do listsand the whirlwind timeline of a wedding, but don't let that prevent you from really taking in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Enjoy every moment, step back and really see all the people who have gathered to celebrate with you, and don't forget to kiss your new spouse!

Plan Well

No matter how big or small your wedding is, do your best to have every detail accounted for before the day arrives. Your guests may not notice the hairspray in the bathroom or the sprig of lavender on each napkin, but they will appreciate the seamless flow, personal touches, and a calm bride who knows her vendors have it all under control!

5 Dangerous Eating Habits

5 Dangerous Eating Habits

Our relationship with food is complicated—and often a little confounding.

Even the healthiest eaters are prone to occasional food transgressions—a dinner downed in front of the TV, a lunch wolfed down on the way to an appointment, a snack attack that sneaks up on us. As long as such lackluster eating experiences are the exception, and not the rule, they’re probably no cause for worry. But what about when the occasional “whoops!” becomes part of a more persistent pattern?

Over time, such patterns can become ingrained tendencies—unconscious ways of interacting with food so automatic, and so subtly destructive, we don’t fully recognize the damage they’re doing to our bodies and minds, or just how habitual they’ve become.

The first step in disentangling ourselves from such tendencies is identifying where problem-eating patterns may have taken root in our own lives. The next step is deciding which of those patterns we want to take on first—and how.

Here are five problem-eating patterns that may be standing in the way of your health and happiness — and how to unsnarl them for good.

SPEED SNARFING

Eating too fast is endemic to a fast-paced way of life. “We live too fast, we drive too fast, we talk too fast…why should our relationship with food be any different?” asks Marc David, MA, founder and director of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating and author of The Slow Down Diet(Healing Arts Press, 2005). “Learning how to slow down with food is a metaphor for slowing down with life.”

Mind-Body Toll:

Bolting your food robs you of the full satisfaction of eating, leading you to eat more than you otherwise would. Digestion starts with the brain’s sensory experience of seeing food, smelling food and anticipating food, David explains: “When you eat too quickly, you bypass food’s sensory pleasure.” Both biochemically and neurologically, he notes, “this has the effect of slowing the metabolism and diminishing your body’s ability to burn that food as fuel.”

Eating too fast also inhibits proper digestion, David explains. Do anything quickly and you trigger the body’s stress response (a.k.a. fight or flight). As a result, breath becomes shallow, blood is channeled to the arms and legs, and digestion shuts down.

From an evolutionary standpoint, turning off digestion made sense. Speed often meant danger. If a tiger was on your heels, digesting lunch wasn’t a big priority. Today, our environment is less immediately threatening, but our basic biochemistry hasn’t changed. Devour an egg-and-cheese muffin in rush-hour traffic and the body’s fight-or-flight response kicks into high gear: Digestive enzymes dry up, gut transit time may speed up (causing diarrhea) or slow down (causing constipation), and nutrient absorption grinds to a halt.

Guard mealtime

David calls on Americans to “reclaim their right to dine.” That means scheduling dedicated time to sit down at a table and savor your food. Fend off the impulse to whittle away your lunch hour running errands or downing breakfast at your computer.

Take five to 10 slow, deep breaths before every meal

…to flip on the body’s relaxation response, a built-in protection against stress. Breathing deeply expands the diaphragm, stimulating the vagus nerve, which runs from the brain to the colon and activates the relaxation response, thwarting fight or flight.

Pace yourself

If you normally eat breakfast in five minutes, for example, take 10. “If you are a fast and furious eater, it’s time to change gears,” says David. “The more time we set aside for a meal, the more we place ourselves in the optimum state of nutritional and calorie-burning metabolism. The less time we take for a meal, the less the body is able to determine when it is full.”

 SECRET SNACKING

If you hide chocolate in your desk drawer, stash potato chips in the utility closet or keep a candy bar in your nightstand, it’s a sign you have mixed feelings about your own snacking tendencies. Sneaking food implies that the food and/or the appetite for that food is ‘bad,’” says David. “When you label things ‘bad,’ like any good criminal, you will do it in secret.”

Mind-Body Toll

Secretive eating feeds the shame spiral that perpetuates poor eating habits. “Any behavior that takes place in secret tends to go hand-in-hand with shame,” says Michelle May, MD, a board-certified family physician and author of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat (Greenleaf Book Group, 2010). “If I eat something ‘bad,’ then I feel guilty, and I feel like a ‘bad’ person for doing it.”

The brain is similarly shackled by joyless eating. Compared with actively savoring food, eating in secret can create stress, which means the release of fewer endorphins, the pleasure chemicals that promote digestion. Endorphins help assimilate nutrients and, ultimately, burn calories. “The chemistry of pleasure is intrinsically designed to fuel metabolism,” says David. “When food comes with a helping of guilt, the nervous system registers only a minimum of pleasurable sensations and we are physiologically driven to eat more. We’re compelled to hunt down the pleasure we never fully receive, even though it’s continually within our grasp.”

Eating furtively easily leads to overeating because it allows you to skirt the emotions at the heart of the issue. Instead of sitting with an uncomfortable situation or emotion, seeking a quick pleasure fix through food becomes a way to change or manage emotions quickly, says May. When the urge strikes to eat behind closed doors, stop and ask yourself what emotion you are trying to escape. “You may think you are overeating ‘just because it tastes good’ or ‘because you lack willpower,’” says May, but that’s rarely the case. “The ‘why’ becomes clear only when you explore the feelings that underlie your actions.”

Notice which foods you stash or squirrel away.

Note what triggers the desire for that food. What scenario typically precedes the sneak attack? Which foods cause the greatest guilt? Next time the urge to stealth-eat strikes, David suggests asking yourself, “What is my body really hungry for?” Other than food, what comes to mind?

Don’t allow others to shame you.

“There may be people in your life who feel like they can judge what you’re eating,” says May. “Tell them ‘I appreciate your intention, but when you tell me what I can and can’t eat, I feel angry and guilty, and it actually makes me feel like eating more. I’d appreciate it if you stop commenting on my food choices.’”

Redirect your inner rebel.

Sneaking “forbidden” foods can be a thrill. “There’s a part of us that likes breaking the rules,” says David, “and engaging in secret eating can be exciting.” If that’s true for you, look for other ways to appease your inner rebel. Say, do or try something a little edgier than you normally would, or look for a way to more openly express your authentic self.

STARVING AND STUFFING

Tuning out the body’s hunger signals during the day creates an energy and nutrition deficit that can set you up for uncontrolled eating later. “If all day it’s coffee and cottage cheese, then night falls and all hell breaks loose, that’s a sign you’re setting yourself up for overeating and making poor food choices,” says Keith Ayoob, EdD, RD, FADA, a nutritionist at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.

This problem-eating behavior — sometimes called night-eating syndrome (NES) — is more common in men than women and often goes hand-in-hand with weight gain and, sometimes, depression. NES is often defined as eating 25 percent of one’s total calories after the evening meal more than three times a week. “And the calories people binge on usually aren’t salad,” Ayoob says. “Let’s face it, it’s hard to make good decisions when you are hungry.”

Mind-Body Toll

When the body is deprived of food for more than a few hours, blood-sugar levels nosedive. That triggers a voracious appetite for quick-energy foods (carbohydrates). On cue, you gobble carbs, which makes blood sugar rise but doesn’t initiate the gentle, rolling hills of energy the body needs to stay on its game. Instead, carb-heavy snacks and meals translate to big blood-sugar spikes and deep valleys. “Our willpower is no match for our physiology,” says Annie Kay, MS, RD, lead nutritionist at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health and author of Every Bite Is Divine (Life Arts Press, 2007). “The biggest determinant of hunger later on is big drops in blood sugar early in the day.”

A 2007 study published in theInternational Journal of Obesity found a strong correlation between NES and weight gain. And that makes sense, because eating in the middle of the night — when your circadian rhythm has your body in “sleep mode” — makes it harder to process food properly.

When you finish one meal, plan the next.

At breakfast, think ahead to lunch and make a sandwich or pack up leftovers to take to the office. After dinner, consider what healthy breakfast fare you can enjoy the next morning. Maybe slice some strawberries for cereal or make a couple of hardboiled eggs. People who want to eat well may need to accept that this involves a certain amount of advance planning, says Ayoob. “That doesn’t mean you can’t ever have treats or be spontaneous,” he notes, “it just means that planning and prepping healthy options is a must.”

Factor a protein source into every meal and snack

Aiming for a small protein infusion every two to three hours to help keep your blood sugar steady. Top your salad with a hardboiled egg or chicken breast, eat your crackers with hummus, add miso to your bowl of quick-cook noodles, or mix up a protein drink if you don’t have time for anything else. If you graze, reach for small-but-filling portions of protein-rich foods, like a dozen almonds or a tablespoon of nut butter with apple slices.

– Plan a preemptive strike against the post-work binge. Hectic workers often ignore the body’s needs for nourishment during the day — either because they’re too distracted or too busy to eat. “After work, when the brain finally gets permission to attend to our physical needs, the body is as ravenous as a neglected dog, and so we tend to overeat,” says David, who suggests eating a high-fiber, protein-rich pre-dinner snack to take the edge off hunger pangs and curb the urge to binge later.

STRESS FEEDING

Ever made it through a stressful scenario only to be gripped with a sudden compulsion to eat? Those cravings probably come courtesy of cortisol, a hormone made in the adrenal glands and unleashed into the blood when the body faces a real or perceived threat. Elevated cortisol levels arouse the appetite, especially sugar and fat cravings. Just knowing that can make you more conscious of what motivates your food decisions.

“Noticing that you aren’t hungry but you feel like eating is half the battle,” says May. “Ask yourself in that moment, what else can I do to address this emotion?”

Mind-Body Toll

Like an air traffic controller, cortisol signals where energy is delivered inside the body. And studies show that cortisol prefers to divert extra calories into deep abdominal fat (a.k.a. visceral fat), which is more detrimental to health than the superficial flab in, say, love handles.

Stress also reduces your gut’s acidity and, consequently, its ability to absorb key nutrients. A final insult? Not only does stress-induced cortisol damage your body’s ability to digest properly, it also decreases your body’s ability to repair itself.

Exercise your options.

If stress sends you running to the refrigerator, remind yourself that eating won’t erase the stress, says May. Try making a list of things you find relaxing, such as a hot bath or taking your dog to the park, and keep the list on the pantry or refrigerator door. Next time you are stressed and tempted to reach for a snack, pause to look at the list and consider your alternatives.

Conserve your energy.

Keep in mind that the setup for stress-induced splurges can build over the entire day, says Kay. “Practicing self-awareness, such as noticing negative self-talk, and taking deep breaths at the first signs of stress, can put you on a different path.” Taking more frequent breaks can also help dispel stress, making it more likely that you’ll get through the day with your self-awareness intact.

Cut yourself some slack.

Beating yourself up after a stress-induced splurge only fuels negative feelings. Instead, acknowledge what happened and move on. “Turning to food at times of stress is part of being human,” says Eunice Chen, PhD, co-director of the eating disorders program at the University of Chicago Medical Center. “Stress eating only becomes a real problem when it’s your only way to deal with stress.”

MINDLESS MUNCHING

Mindless eating tends to be most noticeable after the fact: You plunk down on the couch with a full bag of chips, and before you know it, the bag is empty. Or you sit down at your desk with a sandwich, check your email, and suddenly there’s nothing but crumbs. Eating mindlessly is a natural byproduct of a hyper-stimulating environment, says Wansink: “We have too many things competing for our attention and food drops to the bottom of the list.”

Wansink calls the food environment we build for ourselves “choice architecture.” In broad strokes, his research shows that the easier and more unlimited our access to food, the more we’ll choose to eat. Keeping a candy dish on your desk, stocking lots of treats in the pantry, sitting down with an entire bag of chips, and keeping food within reach while we are driving, computing, having a meeting or watching TV — scenarios like these all lay the environmental groundwork for mindless overeating.

Mind-Body Toll

A 2006 study published in the journalPhysiology & Behavior found that people’s caloric intake can balloon by up to 71 percent when they eat in front of the tube. Wansink explains that eating while watching TV is a problem for two reasons: “First, you don’t pay attention to whether you’ve had 14 or 40 potato chips. Secondly, you often won’t stop eating until the end of the show, regardless of whether you’re full or not.” Another problem: Such eating patterns can become mutually reinforcing — it becomes hard to watch TV and not eat.

When you eat, just eat.

If you’re going to have a meal or snack, eat it before you sit down to do anything else, and then put all edibles away before you begin your next task. If you tend to eat while watching TV, instead keep your hands busy by folding laundry, paying bills, giving yourself a pedicure, holding a mug of hot tea, lifting weights or knitting.

Make the mechanisms of mindless eating work for you

…advises Wansink. “If you’re three times more likely to eat the first thing you see in the cupboard, make sure the first thing you see is something healthy. If you’re 30 percent more likely to eat more if you face the buffet, don’t face the buffet. If you eat third and fourth helpings of dinner, leave the serving bowl on the stove or put leftovers away before you sit down to eat.”

Never eat out of the package.

Even if you just want a handful of chips, put them on a plate. Plating food increases your awareness of portion size, says Wansink. “Dishing out a ration makes you see exactly how much you are eating.”

The first step to rerouting any problem-eating habit is recognizing it. The good news? From there, change can happen almost immediately. Start by implementing one or two healthy shifts, and you might be surprised by how many others come along for the ride.

You might also be surprised by how much you discover about yourself in the process. “The antidote to modern food culture is bringing more self-inquiry into your day,” says Kay. “This is far from a chore — it’s a juicy opportunity to delve into what’s going on in your body and mind.”
