THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN DRESSING FOR A JOB INTERVIEW

Job interview dressing can be quite scary as everything that goes on has to be as close to perfect as possible. You don’t want to look under dressed or be found wanting so you have to keep the following in mind when selecting outfits for a job interview.

You Can’t Be Too Formal

One thing I would like you to keep in mind is that you can’t be too formal for a job interview. Don’t worry about looking too polished, it is better to be too formal than looking too casual.

Keep It Classic

Keep to the classic fashion when selecting clothes, you don’t want to attract too much attention to yourself. You can afford to be a little more daring when you’re interviewing for creative professions in art, advertising and fashion, and wearing a trendier and more fashionable outfit is a good idea.

Decency is Key

Avoid low necklines, high skirts, exposed midriffs, and body-hugging items. Wear properly tailored clothes that fit just right.

Leave off the scent

Trust me when I say you don’t want to offend an interviewer with the wrong scent so to avoid that risk, you can save the perfumes for a later day.

Tone Down on the Makeup

Wear light makeup, nothing dramatic! Check for lipstick stains on your teeth before going in for the interview.

Limit the accessories

Flashy, bold and noisy accessories aren’t going to earn you points on interview day. Plus if you’re prone to fidgeting with your own accessories, leave them off.

A jacket comes in handy

Jackets have a way of giving you more authority but if you are not a fan of jackets then you can wear it with just the first interviewer and carry it with you for the rest of the interview process.

Bring a handbag, briefcase or portfolio case

This will depend on you and what you need to bring to the interview. Bring a structured bag that is large enough to carry notes and brochures. No need to stick to neutrals, but it’s not the setting for a neon clutch either. Keep the bag dressy and professional.

Road test the interview outfit

Be sure to try on the outfit well before the interview. Walk around, sit down, and take your jacket on and off. Make sure you like the outfit without the jacket. Most of all, make sure that you’re happy, confident and comfortable.
